Atlanta?

Good morning, hoping for some help on another trip to Atlanta. I have been to Dalton, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain twice previously an also Pickett's Mill and New Hope Church with Peachtree Creek, Gilgal Church, The History Center, Railroad Museum and Stone Mountain also thrown in. I would like to visit again but I realize just about all has been lost over the last 160+ years. Allatoona Pass is a location I haven't been too yet and would love to see just for the connection to the great hymn spawned from the battle. Not sure how much else there really is to see though. Historical Marker Database has some interesting looking locations involved with the battles to take the city but other than a few random markers I'm not sure if it is worth the effort. Sometimes I have found though with good research ahead of time and a good imagination you can get a lot out of trips even if modern development has swallowed it up (Nashville and Chickasaw Bayou for example). Are there any recommendations that can be made to make another trip worthwhile? It looks like possibly Ezra Church and Ultoy Creek might have some spots left worth visiting but other locations like Dallas and Jonesboro it just doesn't seem like much. Atlanta has a driving tour but other than the McPherson monument I'm not sure about time there. Soap Creek Ruins looking interesting. Please any help on spots I have mentioned or any others would be appreciated.

You have listed a comprehensive list of the Atlanta highlights. My question is why are you going back there? Is there an agenda that drives you to brave Atlanta traffic? If not, Chattanooga is not that far away.

The State of Georgia takes Civil War history very seriously. The links I have posted are comprehensive. You could spend a month on guided tours, a thousand miles of driving tours or use this resource to contact the venues that are of special interest to you.

Everybody has their own reasons & are more or less open to surprises. I suggest that you use these links as a springboard. RC

It's not a specific spot of the war, but you might try visiting the Cyclorama at the Atlanta History Center (in Buckhead I believe). I haven't visited it in decades, and it was then in the old location.

I would like to add other spots as well as I know that is a small battlefield. As for Chattanooga it happens to be my favorite vacation spot and I have visited the battlefield there 3 times already. I live a few miles from there. It is 100% worth visiting. Most of the core battlefield is preserved including the federal fortifications. The house next to the park that existed at the time of the battle is still there (private ownership) complete with a marker for the mass grave of CS soldiers in the front yard. There's also a nice monument area with a monument for each state that had troops there.

Also, Dallas has a small park near the post office roughly on the right flank of the Orphan Brigade's position when they mistakenly attacked federal lines. It goes up on the high ground seized by the Rebs earlier in the actions along the Dallas line.
