Can anyone recommend a book on the Atlanta Campaign that delves into more than just strategic movements? While I'm interested in the big pitcher of those movements I'd love to find a book that deals more with personalities of the soldiers involved. I've recently learned of two ancestors who served in the Army of Tennessee. One was wounded at Peachtree Creek and the other fought through till Nashville where he was taken prisoner. Any recommendations are appreciated.

If you want a book that focuses on the army of Tennessee in that timeframe look at Autumn of Glory by Thomas Connelly

Think this work by Connelly provides an excellent coverage of the dynamics and machinations, as well as the personalities involved, within the high command structure of the Army of Tennessee during the period, 1862-1865.

What regiment(s) were they in? South Carolina?

One was in the 12th Tennessee Infantry (Private Thomas Richard Watson Ford-Wounded at Peachtree Creek according to his Archives Card) the other was in the 31st Tennessee (West Tennessee as there were originally two 31 Tennessee) he was the Company E First Sergeant at the time of his capture at Nashville.

Another vote for Decision in the West.

I found this book by Stephen Davis which is specific to the city of Atlanta an interesting read:

Features hundreds of eyewitness accounts from letters, diaries and newspapers. Both sides and civilians are represented.
