"Walking by a couple and their teenage daughter before the Battle of Resaca reenactment Saturday, John Moreno asked the girl if she would like to get a photograph with his rifle."

"Moreno was dressed in a full Union uniform and carried a period-correct hat for people to wear in photographs with him. For those who favored the Confederate side, he would pose with his hands up, as if captured."

"As the photograph was taken, Moreno told the family that more than 400 women served in combat during the Civil War — including one woman found in a mass grave on the Resaca, Georgia, battlefield. Noticing the girl's red hair, he also told her about a band of Irish Americans that invaded Canada multiple times during the Civil War era."
