How many Army academies were there? This photograph was titled merely " Army Cadets ", in LoC, but not which- the building in the background looks like West Point but other places built in the same ferociously military manner, right?

There's no date on this, it's merely under the heading " 1860 " and pretty vague, could be earlier because some of the photos clumped in some of the groups have females wearing hair and clothing from earlier, not sure if that means a thing when it comes to this one. Blew it up by halves just in case anyone looked familiar. :)

Another great photo.

One military academy before, during and after Civil War was Kentucky Military Institute. It is important to my family as my Uncle went there before World War II. He always had wonderful memories of the school.

Kentucky Military Institute was founded in 1845 by Colonel Thomas Pitcairn Allen. The school operated from 1845-1971.

You can read about school at: http://www.kmialumni.org/

There were many Civil War soldiers who attended the school prior to war or left because they joined both Union or Confederate Armies.

Three who attended KMI were:

Stephan Gano Burbridge, Union Army Major General
Robert Hoke, Confederate Major General
Ambroise Bierce

The site on KMI Random thoughts doesn't come up. However if you want to read it goggle The Kentucky Institute Gave Some dated March 13, 2012 by Tim Talbott, Frankfort, Ky. It has information and photos of several soldiers of KMI who were in Civil War.

If I was to guess, I would say this is a post Civil War image. My reasoning is that the shirt collars appear to be post Civil War.
