Wow. I hadn't thought about how important battlefield pick ups were to the southern supply effort - obviously substantial. I shouldn't be surprised though. Anyone who saw all that stuff left behind must have realized how easy it was to reuse it. No wonder the southern war effort never ran out of munitions...

It's an interesting piece of documentation, but battlefield salvage has been a standard practice since forever. There's a reason the side that remained in control of the battlefield was regarded as having won...
