Armi Sport Quality?

I am in the market for a new repro .69 caliber musket. I'm chosing between the Pedersoli 1816 and the Armi Sport M1842. This would be for an early war Southern impression.

How are the Armi Sport 1842s? I hear they are pretty close in terms of historical details to the originals, but what about the QUALITY of them? The reliability, durability? I plan to shoot it a lot (as I do my other black powders) so don't want it to fall apart on me.

Thoughts?

The only serious problems with the Armi 1842 is the (unless they have improved it on latter models) misshaped trigger guard.
The front sight blade is steel, not brass like the originals.
The ramrod is TERRIBLY misshaped.
The hammer has too much of a "hump" on the top of it.
Don't know if newer models have a varnish stock finish like the latter models did. Usually you had to strip it, and put on a oil finish yourself.
Other than that, they are great repro's, weight is close to an original.

I have a couple of friends who have the Pedersoli 1816, they are great repro's, though a lot more in cost to an Armi 42. I don't know what you can really do to much improve the Pedersoli, they do use an oil finish on the stock.

I see. So the Pedersoli 1816 is about right in looks and feel? I believe John Holland stated in a previous post I found that the barrel bands on the D.P. 1816 are about an inch off from where they're supposed to be. That is not acceptable IMHO.

Then go with the 42. It would give great service in many scenario's, might find a used one in great condition!
