I'm not sure this is the right place for this post but I took a day trip to Appomattox Courthouse yesterday. What is unique about Appomattox Courthouse is they have restored the whole village. Yes, the grass may be trimmed a little better and I'm sure it smells a lot better (no horses and you can't use the out houses) but the village is there. You can walk the streets and go into the store and visit the homes, McClain's and the slave's. Then you can tour the sites around the village where the armies camped. The Park Service has done an outstanding job. The Confederate Museum is very well done, possibly the best of their three museums. The only problem is one day is not enough. I see a lot more trips to Appomattox in my future.
