Found in a barn in Orange, Va along with a super clean CIVIL WAR MODEL 1860 LIGHT CAVALRY US SABER MADE BY MANSFIELD & LAMB OF FORESTDALE, RHODE ISLAND is this crude sword. The guard is still in good condition but the blade and handle are shot. The guard has an "IIX" on the side but otherwise I see no more markings. Any help identifying is greatly appreciated and there are many more to come from this estate fresh find.

With the roman #, the casting flaws and unstopped fuller I'm going with a Keansville CS sword like the one I have in my collection which has the same characteristic. The wooden handle is not original to the sword.

Does photo #3 really show a hollow cast guard?
J.

Yes it does. To bad the pommel isn't there as that would be the tell tell sign, but I really think its a Kenansville

Thanks everyone for your help! I'm selling it along with 20+ other swords, military knives & bayonets at an auction this Saturday~ Wish me luck and if you want to take a look at the rest visit www.gibsonauction.com

Not A Problem? Do you want me to sell it for you also.

No fooling, I'm a also a relic hunter along with a collector, enthusiast, and in my advanced years a merchant. I checked your auction site and don't see anyway for me to bid.
