Jacob's Ladder by Donald McCaig was recommended to me but on reading reviews at Amazon I'm not sure if I'd like it as it got a fair amount of bad comment.

If anybody here has read it and can tell me what you thought I'd be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.

If you like historical fiction, it is ok. If you like history, it is not. I suspect that is the reason for the mixed opinions. Donald McCaig is not an ACW devotee as an author either...

I thought the movie was strange!:O o:
From what I read the movie has nothing to do with the book John Winn has in mind. The movie is about a Vietnam veteran who is afraid to lose his mind because of either a drug experiment or PTSD (and has 4,5 Stars on amazon.de), whereas the book tells a story from Civil War Virginia about the "interlocked lives of masters and slaves". Not my cup of tea, but as it is "award-winning" it should be good.
