Anybody else active in the Adopt A Position program?

Groups or individuals can adopt monuments, makers, fences, buildings, etc in the park. By adopting you agree to come out 2x per year and maintain the site. Paint, rake leaves, pull weeds, etc. Adopters do not perform work on the actual makers or monuments themselves just the grounds around them. The agreement is two years atleast. They allow you to come out in the spring and fall. The maint. office at the park has a list of availabe sites.
Here is the link and contact info at maint.

Thank you! Had no idea there was such a program. Checking out the photo gallery, it's great to see that so many individuals and groups participate.

Oh...thank goodness.....I couldn't imagine what this was from the title. Sounds great!

Yeah, at first it sounded like "assume the position", lol.

A good idea for all the parks. When I went looking for the marker of Ector's Brigade at Chickamauga, it was hidden by the brush and vines that had grown over it.

I participated in a adopt a pet program and now have the most worthless cat I know. Think I will say clear of any adopt anything program.
Major Bill

We have "adopt road-side ditch" programs (pick up trash twice per year on a stretch of road). Am currently thinking about joining a program, but am still researching the area ditches and best match for my talents.

If you're open to suggestions... The I-75 in Detroit is in desperate need of some cleaning. Recommended attire: Gloves, hazmat suit and body armor.
