Antietam event planned

I am thinking of going tonight. Just trying to work out the logistics. I should probably check the wind levels before embarking on the 1.45 hour journey there. Also I have heard of long wait times, so if I go it will probably be very early and find things to do out there.

Anyone else going? Or Been?

Got here at 5:15 and am in line about a mile from the start. It's 6:00 and we should be moving soon!

Taking videos so hope I can figure a way to post them tomorrow

I'll miss it this year but it will be really good weather for the event - it's 7 o'clock and the line is probably most of the way back to Boonsboro.

Been several times; since I'm a volunteer there and we get to go through first I haven't had to wait in line. The last time I went, at 7 pm (which is about now as I am posting this) the line was almost all the way back to Boonsboro (about 5 miles from the entrance). But it is WORTH IT. The only other time I ever experienced a WOW like the one I see at this event was the first time I saw the Grand Canyon. Even Old Faithful can't match this scene, and it is so sobering it breaks your heart, and it is so quiet, so respectful. It is a HUGE WOW.

FYI, if you are in line at midnight, you will go through, no matter how long the line is at the time.

I went! And it was awesome! Great night for it.

So we got into the area about 5:15 and were probably got in line about a mile from the start on Richardson Ave. We probably entered the display about 7:00. So it took almost 2 hours for us to go the 1 mile. Full car with wife and two kids. Wife graciously offered to drive when we got in the park. Kids were preoccupied by a movie in the back, but did occasionally ask what all the lights were for. Think we pulled back on to 65 at 8:00. So it takes about an hour to go through in addition to the waiting line.

Its kinda hard to understand it in the moment, but when you see the luminaries on the hill outside the VC and how many there are, and yet there are so many more, or when you turn south on the Old Hagerstown pike, back toward the VC and Dunkard Church, and stop and look - its just beautiful.

I tried to get a few pictures but the lighting was very difficult and you really need a tripod to capture it correctly. I may have a few of the Dunkard Church that I will have to download.
