Another Sherman book.

Oh, hey- looked through that one in a bookstore: didn't read the whole thing through but was very impressed with what I did see. I really felt like the author understood Sherman- he has a lot of sympathy for Sherman, perhaps a little too much. There's a lot of focus on the personal side of Sherman- which I enjoyed rather than just focusing on the fiery destroyer of Georgia. The way the author talks about Grant and Sherman's relationship is particularly interesting- he characterizes Sherman as the perpetual wingman. The writing is also very easy to follow and very lively- the authors personality ones out just as much as Sherman's. All in all- from what I read in the hour at the bookstore- very re commended, though perhaps not to the taste of scholorly types.

I got about halfway through this one before going off on another tangent. It's an interesting read, not a straight narrative biography, but more of personality/character study.

I read the book on my Kindle last year. You've captured my own reaction to it very well, Hanna. Half the fun is the writer's voice; his energy and verve are very well-matched to Sherman's!
