Another Goofy Chevron

First sergeant Marmaduke H. Marshall, of Co. K. 17th Georgia. He only has one bar on his chevron, instead of three.

I know some units used a single Chevron to designate Lance Corporal's but I have no idea what logenza ( diamond) is.

The inconsistencies on the Confederate side are not surprising considering the lack of resources.

Worse - during one of the long forced marches, he was reduced to eating the extraneous stripes.

@donna - I believe biscuits of stripes were typically served with Stone Soup.

There is actually no existing evidence that he was a 1st Sgt, though he was known to enlist as a private, promoted to corporal of Co A, then Lt. and 1st Lt of Co K, finally promoted to Captain of K in 1864 going AWOL Feb of 1865.

I have to imagine the records are lacking and he had to be promoted at some juncture to Sgt prior to his Lieutenancy.
