Sorry, but you are very wrong about the Chenault House being the location. The wagon train was ambushed at the Moss plantation on a horselot next to the home. This plantation was up the road a couple of miles from the Chenault House. Don't believe the Internet. Dig further into research for yourself. The Chenault House did play a role, though. It's where some of the ambushers camped out before and after the raid. But nothing ever has been found there in terms of buried gold. Ever. And the owners are sick and tired of people knocking on their door. We've had a relic hunting team on the old Moss property for almost two years and did find some treasure coins. Actually, I will be posting the announcement today shortly as it's the 157th anniversary of the robbery on May 24, 1865.
