Another Aliases Question

I've been researching an elusive gg grandfather for some time now. I've run across a pension application with the name Andrew Lawless (correct) also known as John Brady. I've read some of the previous threads regarding aliases possibly being caused by lazy clerks who did not really care to spell the name correctly, but it seems to me that Brady is a long jump from Lawless.

I lost Andrew J. Lawless (who was a circuit Methodist minister) after 1890 and John J. Brady pops up in the same town that my gg grandfather lived and Brady is getting married in 1894. The year of birth for both Lawless and Brady are about the same (two years apart).

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
