Member Review Andy joined the USCT

Andrew Ford of the 56th USCT died of cholera. Not sure if the other info lines up with the Andrew of the OP-

Ford, Andrew (20).jpg

I'd start there. If you can verify the year of Andy's birth by his age at the time the will was probated, it will help you to either confirm or rule out the 40 yo. Andrew Watts of the 63rd USCT who died of cholera.

It looks like the probate records are fairly extensive - at least for Berry R. Yocum.

I have copies of the probate records for Elizabeth Watt's 3 Yocum sons but none of them mention Andy. A cousin in Missouri copied them for me but the listings here are more extensive than what he sent to me. It appears that Andy is in the 1850 Cass Co., MO Slave Schedule as an 8 year old mulatto: owner Elizabeth Watts. He is mentioned in an 1856 letter as 'almost big enough to plow' at about age 14. He may have given a false name when he enlisted but probably did not look 40 years old. A previous post showed the names of Andy/Andrew who enlisted in the 56th USCT and there is an Andrew Moore, the surname of Matthew Yocum's wife. I will look at the record.
