Ancestry.Com Question

Ok, I admit that I'm way behind the curve for web data. I hate it. I've always developed applications for in-house users.

But, I've looked through the "help" area, and have yet to find out just how to add images or other things to specific persons in a tree. I guess they're considered Hints. All of my family trees are public, and I've found hints from other people; but as of yet .... I haven't found a way to do it myself. ?

Now here's a generous incentive! However, we are in the same boat regarding Ancestry. I have not even signed up for the free trial 'cause of the need to dispense CC information for something "free". But, then that is just me.

There are actually several ways to add media to your family tree. Here is one way ...

Go to your family tree. Click on the ancestor that you are wanting to add to. Click "Profile". Click "Gallery". Click "Add". From here you can click "Upload photos or story; create story".

You can also click "Tutorial". What worked best for me was to simply click on everything and experiment with how each worked.

If all else fails, you can always call Ancestry customer service, and someone will talk you through the process.

Doesn't everything Free require a credit card? Fortunately another member of my family has an account that I can use. My Fold3 account is, to me, obscenely expensive for what you get. But, I've kept it active regardless.

That's interesting. Someone here gave me a link on Ancestry which displayed a burial / death certificate. It came from Ancestry, but I haven't yet found how to add it. Perhaps downloading, then uploading. Extremely backwards if that is indeed how it's done.

Not that I've been able to find. Actually when I did a search, all I got was the text information with a 'no image available'. However the link sent doesn't appear to be attached to anyone. I'll have to look again.

As they've added more content it's become increasingly to refind things. Learned this the hard way--if I think it's a possible match, I've started adding the record to my shoebox when I first see it. It's much easier to delete from the shoebox if it turns out not to be a match, then to try and figure out the exact search parameters again.

Most of the time I want to attach a record to an event. So say for instance I wanted to add a death record. After opening the person's profile, under the Facts, I would go down to Death and click on the edit that appears when you scroll over it. Click edit, then on the popup Click Media, then Upload Media, Select Files.

FYI, for an example. I was given a link on a different thread for a death / burial certificate IMAGE on Ancestry. I both followed the link, and searched on my own. All I was able to find was the text outline of what the data contained. The image itself I wasn't able to locate on ancestry. Gives some instructions above, I saved the image displayed by the helpful member, and then uploaded it to the persons gallery.
A 'hint' by another user on ancestry simply shows the text outline as I found. So how the real image was found ... I have no idea. No idea how to add hints, and I don't really care at this point. There was only a couple people interested in this ancestor and neither have returned emails.
