Alred Waud Sketches

It's fairly easy to see that Alfred probably overshadowed his brother William. Together they are responsible for over 2,000 sketches.

That's a lot of drawings I wonder how many from actual battle sites and not just later drawing from his memory on his desk at home?

Most of his finished drawings were undoubtedly made later from sketches made on the spot. The Pinterest site above has many examples of his rough sketches and figure studies that were later incorporated in his finished drawings. I think we would know much less about the "look" of the Civil War if we didn't have his drawings and sketches.
