As a longtime lapsed Catholic, I confess to remembering soul cakes.

Donna. It is interesting to note that these very sweet treats are called cakes while they look more like a cookie. The recipe is just about the same as a sugar or ginger cookie. They look absolutely delicious. I may have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing the information and website. David.

Interesting little bit of history. Never heard of souls cakes or the singing 'soulers' before. It sounds like a cross between the modern Halloween tradition of going around for candy crossed with the singing of Christmas carolers. Thanks so for sharing!

I'm a Catholic, but I don't remember any cakes of any kind, then again I haven't been to mass lately. I would like to try some though.
