Davis Alabama recognizes Jefferson Davis' birthday.

I promised myself I wouldn't dip my toes into such waters but I've got to wonder why Davis' birthday would still be a state holiday. What are they celebrating ? What great things did he bring Alabama ? Death and destruction ? And he was a Kentucky boy anyway (as duly noted in the OP). I'm glad all those state workers get a holiday - probably not a lot of benefits in those jobs - but it does seem a bit bizarre to me.

Thanks for the post, though. I didn't know and I like to have little nuggets like that at hand.

When our nation was formed in 1861, President Davis was sworn in, in Montgomery.

Alabama is the Cradle of the Confederacy.
