Abraham Lincoln was afraid of the dentist. It was probably because one visit to the dentist ended in a great deal of pain for him. While pulling a tooth, a dentist actually broke away part of his jaw. All of this was done with no anesthesia.
( I know that would traumatize me as well ! )

Lincoln had four children, Robert, Edward, Willie, and Tad. Only Robert lived to adulthood and never had any children of his own.

Robert had three children: Mary, Abraham II, and Jessie. Both the girls lived well into the 20th century while his son died at 17. Mary had one son who died childless. Jessie had a son and a daughter. The daughter never had any children while the son, Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, may have had an illegitimate son. So it's probable that Lincoln's line died out, but not until 1985.

For years I would have agreed but within the last year discovered Robert Todd Lincoln had three children: Mary Todd [Mamie] Lincoln (1869 - 1938), Abraham Lincoln II (1873 - 1890) and Jessie Harlan Lincoln (1875 - 1948). Mamie had one son, Lincoln Isham, who died childless. Abraham II died childless at the age of 16. Jessie had two children: Mary Lincoln Beckwith who died childless and Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith who may have had a son (see link).

Lincoln had horses at the White House Stables--in 1864, the stables caught fire. Lincoln tried
go into the burning stable to save them but they died in the fire
He was so passionate to save those horses because one of those horses had belonged to Willie, who'd died 2 years earlier, and another belonged to Tad.

I REALLY can't ' like' this- makes my toes curl! POOR man!

Cool thread though, thank you!

Mary once chased him down the street with a kitchen knife until he noticed he neighbors watching- at which point he turned around and frog-marched her back to the house.

According to Burlingame in his book Abraham Lincoln: A Life, the President and Admiral Porter were returning on horseback to the train station in Petersburg following a meeting with General Grant on April 3, 1865, when they rode upon a tobacco warehouse being looted by local Blacks and Federal soldiers. "The president and Admiral Porter each strapped a bale onto their horses' backs" and continued the journey to the train station.

Lincoln's stovepipe hat was more than a hat. He kept mail, letters and important documents in it. So, when would-be assassins shot his hat off during a ride, they shot down his 'filing cabinet', too!

Lincoln was never photographed with his wife, Mary.

Lincoln's coffin has been moved fifteen times and opened five times.
