Well, I was told in a comment by current leader Brion McClanahan (for an extremely volatile Clyde Wilson article) that they aren't a "heritage group". Ha ha.

They are writing about the "Sothern tradition", not about actual history. That is two very different things.

And they gladly taking things out of context and "modify" quotes to fit their agenda.

I once contacted them and asked a few questions about what their sources was for a claim.
It should be very simply for anyone wanting to be taken serious, to reply that x or y book was the source.

Instead I got a rant about how danish King Christian IV centralized power back in the 17th century...
No question that he did just that, changed Denmark form a elective monarchy where the nobility had clear legal ways to limit the power of the king... into an absolutist state where the crown was inherited by the elders son automatically and there where very few limits on the kings power.
But pretty irrelevant to a post about the civil war.

Their modern political opposition to the centralizing of power at the federal level drive their entire understanding of the past.

Wilson's PhD seems honestly earned from a very legitimate institution. He was born in 1941 and his thinking seems permanently shaped by that era l, unable to evolve or progress.

To his credit, Wilson seems more honest and open about who he is. Unlike the email from Brion McClanahan quoted above, who seems determined be disingenuous about Abbeville.

Of course, having a Ph.D. is no guarantee of insightful, objective analysis as opposed to being a robotic ideologue - or, as you put it, it's no guarantee against one's "thinking" being frozen in the past. DiLorenzo has a Ph.D., after all. His "analysis" involves spewing the Mises line.

I guess Philip Thomas Tucker is a screaming example, but I think he has a mental problem, so he doesn't count. Well, heck, so does Wilson. That kind of fixation on the supposed anti-Southern bent he believes permeates every breath a person takes requires a rather foggy brain.
