A War for Southern Independence

I am quite tired of the revisionist pseudo-history that tries to pretend that the vast majority of southerners cared about/were fighting for slavery. President Davis even said "The North was mad and blind; it would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came, and now it must go on unless you acknowledge our right to self government. We are not fighting for slavery. We are fighting for Independence."

This is what it boils down to. The south wanted to be free. The leaders of the Confederacy were by-and-large honorable and great men, to the same level of the Founding Fathers.
