It is not uncommon for veterans of war to dislike the people they fought against. For example when I was young some WWII veterans disliked the Japan and the Japanese people. Same with Vietnam War veterans dislike Vietnamese people.

I saw David Allan Coe perform 100% Rebel in TUscaloosa around 98-99. Talk about my glory days at the University of Alabama. The University was known as the "West Point of the Confederacy". Too bad I was 137 years late. Roll Tide!!
