A Friday sash...

Nice albeit tired officers sash. Nearly all of the tassels are present. Good color but was a big snack shack for a short time.
It does have 2 old knots in it. Mayne it was too long perhaps another reason?
Still it is nice overall.
Would live to take the folds out of the cloth though

You are welcome. I dont see many sashes anymore. Any idea how to smooth it out? I suspect leave the knots in place?

Knots probably came from kids playing with it in the 150 or so years since the war. I would gently remove the knots, smooth out the sash on an ironing board, place a slightly damp towel over it and iron on low heat. Fold and place in a ziplock gallon baggie or plastic container that is airtight. Sash is made of silk and insect damage and uv should be avoided.

Great tips. I will try. The knits and the age worry me over tearing.
