Insignia A Few New Acquisitions

Lucked out in obtaining some material for my collection and in preparation for the Gettysburg show, which unfortunately now I will not be attending so at least some of it will go on the new webpage. In addition to lots of odds and ends, here are a few cooler items.

1) Original 1862 dated medicine tin with contents belonging to Charles C. Owen who was a private in the 179th New York Regiment. Inside the tin were some buttons, a medical flyer and remarkably his personal stencil ! Owen was wounded in the head during the Siege of Petersburg and was still in the hospital when he was mustered out in June 1865.

2) 2nd American edition of Gray's Anatomy with US HOSPITAL DEPT markings on the spine. A super rare and expensive book, unfortunately this one is not in great condition but is inscribed to F.A. Seat on who was an African American pastor and doctor in Washington DC. He probably received this book via the Freedman's Bureau since his congregation included many ex slaves. A Church in Silver Spring is named for him.

3) Nice 1858 pattern Officer's hat insignia. One of the better ones I have owned. Some toning to the bullion but complete and very pretty.

4). Plates, plates, plates. Can never have too many of them LOL. The SNY is pretty nice, better than any of my dug examples. The 1840's round "French style" eagle plate is pretty cool. It is an American version but of a style unlisted in O'Donnell/Campbell.

Exceptionally nice finds. You probably already know which one is my favorite. I haven't come across that pattern in my collection yet.

Awesome new additions. Thanks for sharing them with us.
