Hi everyone,
I wanted to share an update on my very favorite civil war item and share what I've been able to collect. I am for whatever reason drawn to these the most out of all the items I have. Most people by now probably are familiar with my obsession with insignia and my constant mentioning of it.

A while back I had searched here for shoulder boards and these eagle badges with no luck but persistence paid off with other avenues. I now have 16 and would like to share with everyone. Hopefully I can find more to add to the collection one day along with my shoulder boards which I'll also be sharing soon.

If you like these you might enjoy my last insignia post that was owned by Joseph Sumner Rogers and his son https://civilwartalk.com/threads/joseph-sumner-rogers’-insignia.200505/

That is an awesome collection. I only have one of these and purchased it not knowing what it was:

Very Nice Collection. Thanks

Thanks Larry, I like the one you found a lot. That was a great decision to snatch that one up, very nice condition!

That's an interesting and historically significant collection. I'm partial to owls myself since I used to be a night owl. Your collection trumps mine because it is Civil War related too.

Thank you! I enjoy searching for all the little embroidered add-ons that officers had to purchase for their uniforms. I'm really into shoulder boards too and have shared a few. With any luck I'd like to write a book about insignia one day. No idea where to start but the idea layout and title is there😆

What do you like to collect? I'm sure what you have is amazing too. I've always been fond of owls and actually like them better than eagles. I'm not aware of any owl insignia so the eagles will have to do but I loved seeing their designs on Ancient Greek coins or catching a glimpse of one and hearing them off in the woods.

Those are really nice! Thanks for sharing
Thanks, I thought it would be nice to showcase the different variations for anyone interested. I find it interesting how each one is done by hand and some face the arrows of war and some face the olive branch and all the combinations of directions you can get, not to mention how many different eagle styles there are. The pictures don't show it too well but some have red thread to simulate the tongue and red, black or amber glass eyes. It's all about the tiny details for me.

Firearms are the main focus. Carbines & revolvers in particular. Firearm tools, buckles an occasional saber or pretty much anything else
Very nice! I don't have much in the way of firearms just 6 for now and a couple swords. Plenty of buckles but all union. I'll be sure to tag you in future posts so you'll see them. You might enjoy them.

I like to collect owls, baseball caps, watches and firearms. As far as Civil War era firearms, I only have a couple of replica black powder revolvers but I have quite a few of the more modern ones. The Ancient Greek coins are nice and I often hear owls in the woods behind my house and love hearing their haunting calls to each other although my dog does not.

I have to get serious about making up display boxes. Buckles about ten of each. Stuffed in cardboard boxes doesn't cut it.
I hear you on that. I have a few buckles out in display cases, swords and muskets hung on walls. A cardboard box is no place for my stuff either but I've got them too unfortunately for now. I really should build some shelves.

Nice group. I like the variations. Repro ones use those little plastic shiney things and they look lame. I have gone wreath pat g that was made by a dedicated reenactor that looks original. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, the variations are what draws me to them. I know what you mean about the reproduction ones. Sometimes it's plain to see the difference, other times it take a little detective work but the one thing that always stands out is that the the original bullion is clearly spiraled while the reproduction bullion seems tubular in appearance.
