96th and 10th Pa

Greetings ,

Does anyone know of Jacob Alvord ? FROM the 2 units listed above? I know from his pension record some facts.
Looks like he started out private and moved up to Lt. Even though I do have his record I'm still a little unclear
how he moved up. The writing can be so taxing at times...He's my 4th great grandfather. I would love to find a
photo of the units he served in does anyone have any?

The 96th Pa. Reg. Volunteers mostly from Schuylkill County..City of Pottsville and surrounding area. ....Sch. County is where I live.
formed Sept thru Oct 1861.
the 10th Pa. Reg. Volunteers formed Camp Curtain Harrisburg April 1861 from surrounding counties

Carol, to add to reading48's post, you might get a whiff of Jacob on one of the local sites? Have grgrgrandfathers from there also, love Schuylkill County! There's an awfully interesting site called Schuylkill Haven History- created and run by one man, with a Civil War section. He tends to put any mention of local soldiers he comes across on it- you might get lucky there.

Since you have his pension records, did you send away for his military records? Those tend to explain what's up with promotions, etc.

Hopefully someone else with ancestors in those units will see this, maybe know something about a photo. It's tedious but there are an awful lot of regimental photos in LoC- never know which ones could be there?

Yes I do have all of his military records and no it may not be intact as really there is not much there
