These 2 West Point Cadets, both future Union Generals, were involved in a fist fight after one threatened to use a bayonet on the other after being upset at the tone of an order issued.

Name these 2 men.

Philip H. Sheridan and William Terrill

Edit - Seems as though attacking a fellow cadet with a bayonet wasn't enough to get Sheridan suspended, but punching him without first addressing him as "sir" was unforgivable.

William Ludlow and Peter M Ryerson ( although I cannot find any evidence that Ryerson made General rank)

I believe Phil Sheridan and William Terrill are your men; Sheridan was held back for a year and had to graduate with the class following his. Both fought in the battle of Perryville, Kentucky where Terrill was killed, but they had made amends before that.

Philip H. Sheridan (1831-1888) and William R. Terrill (1834-1862).While at West Point, Sheridan threatened to run Terrill through with a bayonet because he thought Terrill had insulted his religion and ethnicity on the parade ground the previous day.
Both men graduated in the Class of 1853.
