At the 1864 Republican Convention delegations from six of the seceded Confederate states presented themselves for admission and to cast their votes for the Republican nominee. Name those six states.

Also, Name the Confederate states whose delegations were allowed admission as nonvoting participants and the states that were refused admission. ( @hoosier may award extra points is he so chooses for the second part of this question)

Edit - My choice, in cases where questions with multiple parts are submitted, is to score such questions the way they have always been scored - players who answer all parts of the question correctly get full credit; players who answer any part of the question incorrectly get no credit.

In this case, there are three parts to the question: (1) Name the six states whose delegations presented themselves for admission; (2) Name the states whose delegations were allowed admission as nonvoting participants; and (3) Name the states that were refused admission (if, in fact, there were any states that were refused admission). Players who answer all three of these parts correctly will get ten points. Players who answer any one of them incorrectly will get zero points.

I think I have to do it this way in order to discourage people from submitting multiple-part questions in the hope of padding their score by submitting questions that, in total, would be worth more than 10 points.

For the first part, my educated guess 'guess' would be VA, FL, NC, SC, GA and AL.

For the second part, South Carolina was denied admission. florida and Virgina were allowed to be represented, but denied voting rights.

The six states whose delegations presented themselves were Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida.

The three that were allowed admission as nonvoting participants were Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida.

Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana were allowed to vote, which means they were allowed admission as voting participants.

Apparently none of the other Confederate states bothered to send delegations. I don't see how their delegations could have been refused admission if they didn't show up for the convention in the first place, so my answer is that no states were refused admission.

"Bonus":
Although at first all states that got admission should have been granted the right to vote, after an elaborate discussion, the result was that Florida and Virginia were denied voting rights and South Carolina was entirely excluded

Not part of the question but an interesting tidbit I would like to provide also - the result of the vote:

Virginia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina...Virginia and Florida were not allowed to vote...and South Carolina was refused admission.

The six Southern state delegations that applied for credentials were: Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia

South Carolina was refused admission at all. The other five were admitted on a non-voting basis. However, that decision was amended and only Florida and Virginia were finally denied the right to vote. It was determined that Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana had formed sufficiently loyal Union "war" governments.

The credentials committee recommended that all the Southern states except South Carolina be admitted, but denied the right to vote. Ultimately, the recommendation that Florida and Virginia be denied voting rights and that South Carolina be excluded entirely, was accepted by voice vote

Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia sent delegations. Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee were admitted with voting privileges. Florida and Virginia were admitted without the right to vote. The South Carolina delegation was refused admission.

No access to my "library" since I'm away from home. No luck with online searches, either. The following is all I could find, which at least helps with part 2 of the question. I assume that Tennessee would have been one of the states allowed to vote since the Vice Presidential candidate was from there.

Doesn't list the six Southern states who sent delegations. Florida and Virginia would be admitted but not allowed to vote. South Carolina was excluded entirely.

Has the same information, not listing the six states who sent delegations.

1. Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Tennessee presented themselves for admission.

2. Virginia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, and Arkansas were admitted as non voting participants

3. South Carolina was refused admission.

Tennessee, North Carolina, Louisiana, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Kentucky all voted. South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia all were allowed on the floor, but were not allowed to vote. The remainder were denied entry.

Edit - North Carolina did not present a delegation to the convention. West Virginia and Kentucky were not Confederate states.

Part 2: Delegates from Florida and Virginia were admitted but denied voting rights; South Carolina sent delegates to the convention, but they were not admitted.

a. Confederate states that presented themselves for admission and to cast their votes for the Republican nominee:
  • Louisiana
  • Arkansas
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • Florida
  • South Carolina
b. Confederate states allowed admission as nonvoting participants
  • Virginia
  • Florida
c. and states that were refused admission
South Carolina

Please note that Missouri was allowed admission and voting privileges, but there seems to be disagreement as to whether it was considered a Confederate state.
