Lt. Col. Thomas Chamberlain

Chamberlain (1841-1896) was the younger brother of the famous General/Governor Joshua L. Chamberlain, and enlisted in the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment in which his brother served, too. A trained clerk; he was promoted several times and became an officer and the regimental Adjutant. Later he served as divisional Provost Marshal and was brevetted to Colonel when the war ended. For much of his later life he suffered from illness (like before), hardships and alcoholism. (Not to be confused with another Lt. Col. with a rather similar name who had also been a clerk and fought at Gettysburg as well ... that was Thomas Chamberlin of the 150th PA.)
