7 Battlefields - 438 Acres

Part of the info you're looking for would be in their financial statements in an aggregate basis. The mix of who contributes what varies from appeal to appeal. Could be partner orgs, board members/ABT officers/in kind from property owners. Accountability The audited financial statements and their Charity Navigator page may help address some of your concerns.

It costs them around 6 cents to raise each $1.00 per Charity Nav.

I appreciate you taking an interest in preservation and being willing to step up. I've been an ABT member for a long time now and donate regularly.

Can definitely second this, they've been very effective in preserving land and items relating to the fighting in the Valley throughout the war. Their Hoke's Run and Manassas Gap Railroad appeals may be of particular interest to CWdiaryPA for the connection to Gen. Jackson or passes through places his troops fought. My membership with SVBF is of more recent vintage but no less enthusiastic.
Thank you for this information, very helpful. There was a recent single donor for some org., Ill try to hunt it down, but I think I remember a figure like 10k? went solely to updating that organization's website? Seemed a LOT of cash for something like that. I understand it takes human time and effort to look after these lands, but that stood out to me. Maybe I misinterpreted the post. But I'll try to locate it & report back. And I'll look into these two you mentioned, thank you.

Found it: 10k primarily to update the website? Really? https://www.winchesterstar.com/winc...cle_0fe06632-ec42-597d-9d38-d46935bb47c2.html

"Through its Preserving America Grant program, Americana Corner awarded KBA $10,000 for the primary purpose of upgrading its website, which "is older and difficult to maintain," says the release. The remainder of the funds will go to advertising and promoting the nonprofit organization's events this year."

Your welcome. Depends on what the terms of the Americana grant were and what capabilities/bandwidth got added. I'd reach out to KBA for comment on your concerns. If the website draws more traffic/funds for maintaining/preserving Pritchard and surrounding acreage/related resources etc, i'd think it worth it. Given the demand from data centers and related infrastructure, I wouldn't be surprised if costs jumped dramatically.

Can I ask, how do people generally contribute? I've always been one of these 5 bucks here, 10 bucks there handed in cash to animal orgs. This is, naturally, very different. Do people give like 100 here and there, or way more to one particular cause, like 10k for one battlefield cause, then call it a day? I'm assuming spreading out my donations to different sites would make more of a long-term difference, unless there's one particular site in the future that needs immediate bigtime help or it's going under. I guess it's all individual. Last, people give anonymously, right? So they don't get inundated with requests, mail, emails, etc. I could always give in the name of my civil war ancestors, then have people go searching for dead men 😅. Thank you so much for your time.

Personally have no issue putting my name to donations. Aye, it's all individual. I've done both, a little each to several appeals and a focused effort on one site. For instance, Gaines Mill-Cold Harbor went through at least five separate phases before the targeted parcel was secured. I believe folks have donated anonymously but that's a matter to be taken up with the org itself. Totally understand not wanting to be inundated with requests but they do need to send the receipts somewhere... Not sure the latter would looked at favorably when their books get audited :) The donor relations staff at the respective orgs would likely be best able to answer your questions or direct you to who can.

Thank you, and good on you for being generous. For sure any org. needs to know who's sending them money. I don't really know what the heck I was even asking 😄. That's interesting about Gaines Mill. It must be very intense all that goes on behind the scenes to save these parcels, and complicated. Thanks again.

Your welcome. If you meant are the donors are anonymous to general public but not to the org, the answer is yes. Aye, it is intense. Thanks for your kind comments. Hope you join in the effort to the extent you feel comfortable with.
