When researching my family I found a cousin who served with the 5th Ky Mounted Inf Co. C he enlisted for 12 months, first time ( Capt. Hawkins ). Later from fall of 1862 card states 5th Ky Inf Co.C as he re-enlisted immediately as a Third Cpl. ? top of card still says 5th KY Mounted Inf ? , I found listings ( if correct 5th KY ) that he was at Resaca GA and then captured in Dec. 1864 but they list no unit information or can I figure it out ( I have copies the capture rolls ). My questions are would he have become part of the Orphan Brigade in 1863 as the 5th KY Inf and is the correct group that became mntd Inf. again while in Georgia in 1864, Name is Isaac S. Daughetee I really cannot describe how badly they had the last name spelled here, It held me up for way to long. Any help appreciated to sort this out.
Regards,
George

I read the previous posts on the 5th KY I see their is a lot of confusion, I tried to figure it out and just basically got more confused with that card that lists him. GR

5th Infantry Regiment, assembled during the late summer of 1861, included Freeman's Kentucky Infantry Battalion. Its members were raised in the counties of Pendleton, Breathitt, Morgan, Magoffin, Bath, Owen, Grant, Jessamine, Henderson, Harrison, Shelby, and Franklin. Being a twelve-month unit, when it became teim to reenlist some of its members refused and were transferred to the 9th Kentucky Regiment. Later men of the 5th did reenlist for the duration of the war. It became part of the Orphan Brigade or Louisville Legion. The regiment reported 134 casualties in the Battle of Shiloh , then was active at Baton Rouge before being assigned to Kelly's and J.H. Lewis' Brigade, Army of Tennessee. It was prominent at Chickamauga and later took an active part in the Atlanta Campaign. In the fall of 1864 it was mounted, aided in the defense at Savannah, and fought in the Carolinas. The unit had 91 men disabled at Chickamauga, totalled 201 men and 165 arms in December, 1863, and surrendered on April 26, 1865. Its field officers were Colonels Hiram Hawkins, Andrew J. May, and John S. Williams; Lieutenant Colonels John W. Caldwell and George W. Conner' and Majors Richard Hawes and William Mynheir.

Thank you for the info, the ranger95 site is of most interest to me. The find a grave is the wrong guy, mine come from Estill, Bourbon, Clark counties KY, his father is William Daughetee ( my 4x great uncle ), Isaac is buried in Galveston at the Old Catholic cemetery 1916 date of death, I greatly appreciate your help. Talk about the spelling of the last name gave me fits, when the Waynes came here, they spelled it Dohity and Richland county spelled it Daugheettee in the old obits and land records, if I had not completely lucked out searching for the grandfather thru the newspapers to see where he came from I would not know to this day. Here is a copy of the POW record, he is bottom left under Dec. 10 maybe someone can tell what it says after his name, I cannot decipher it.
