Hi All,
I'm looking to buy 50-70 Government ammo.
And or Brass cases and bullets.
Also looking for Dies and bullet molds.
Please contact me if you have anything you'd like to sell.
Thanks
Tony

I have also unsuccessfully been looking for .50-70 reloading components. I contacted Starline Brass and am on their waiting list in case they decide to remake casings. You could also try advertising on the Cowboy Action Shooting sites. Good luck.

Hi James,
Yes I have a Springfield 1868 rifle and am trying to find ammo
It's definitely a challenge.
if I find a source I'll let you know.
Thanks for the advice.
Tony

I didn't have but 5-10 cases for my 1868. Reloading is your friend; my 50-70 would routinely thonk a 55 gallon oil drum at 425 yards. You'd have time to lower the rifle and eject the empty before the bullet hit.
If you're going by the sound of the "thonk," bear in mind that you have to add to the flight time of the bullet the time it would take for the sound to travel 425 yards -- a bit over 1.1 seconds.

Bur Oak,
What powder type and load are you using.
Unfortunately black powder isn't readily available in local stores.
I'm trying to get some Swiss , but most likely will have to use Pyrodex .

None. I don't own such a weapon. I was merely commenting on a previous post, suggesting that if the perception of flight time of the projectile was based on hearing the sound of impact, one had to factor in the time it would take the sound to travel the distance from the target to the observer. At 425 yards, that's not inconsequential.
