What did Cornal Lafyete Baker do that had never been done before?

Credit: @War Horse

just a reminder, I do not research the questions. I only copy and paste them.

Edit - After consultation, War Horse has specified that the question should read "What did Colonel Lafayette C. Baker do that had never been done before?"

Ahm, we seem to have a board malfunction again ... I can see the answer that Ami wrote:

"He designed the wanted poster for John Wilkes Booth that included actual photographs"

By the way, dear Master of Riddles, are you sure that the name is spelled correctly??

Colonel Lafayette Baker told a lot of lies, both privately and in his tell-all memoir - but that's been done before in DC.
He managed to get arrested by both Union and Confederate soldiers as a spy (he was - for the Union) but he's not alone there either.
I think the answer is: he achieved nomination (never confirmed) as brigadier general without ever having really served in the military forces of the US

I suspect that there would be lots of "firsts" as far as Lafayette Baker is regarded, among Licoln Assassination conspiracy theorists; I'd go with a little practical thing he did:

He was the first to put photos of wanted men in a Wanted poster. This one:

John_Wilkes_Booth_wanted_poster.jpg

If the person in question is Colonel Lafayette Baker, he designed the wanted poster for John Wilkes Booth that included actual photographs.

I've seen this somewhere before...

Looks like the kind of mistyping I frequently do! Shouldn't this be Colonel Lafayette C Baker? That's where Google referred me, and there was nothing under the name given above

Assuming the original question was mistyped, Baker was the first head of what eventually became the Secret Service--I assume that is what "had never been done before"? However, his deeds are known mostly from his own book about himself, and his career was rather checkered. He was in charge of tracking down the Lincoln assassination conspirators.

Colonel Lafayette Baker did many things that had likely never been done before....
He was responsible for capturing the first conspirators and assassin of a US President.
He was appointed head of the National Detective Police replacing Pinkerton.
He was accused of wire tapping for intercepting telegraph messages intended for Sec of War Stanton.

Since I assume I have to choose just one answer of somehting he did "that had never been done before," Ill go with the first which is that he was responsible for capturing the first assassin of a US President.
