Solomon Meredith was 6`7" and one of the very few men taller then the 6`4" Lincoln.

Edit - While it is true that Meredith was one of a few men taller than Lincoln, the clue stated that Lincoln said he was "the only one" of the distinction he was making note of - which means he wasn't talking about the fact that Meredith was taller than he was.

Solomon Meredith, Camp scuttlebut was that he was either related to Lincoln, or had worked with him on a flatboat and that he owed his promotion to that reason.

Edit - Camp scuttlebutt isn't the same thing as what Lincoln said about him.

"Long Sol" was the nickname of a Union Brigadier General. President Lincoln said of him that he was the only one of that distinction in his army.

What was the name of that Brigadier?
What made him so distinctive to President Lincoln?

Solomon Meredith
Taller than Abe

The Brigadier General - Solomon Meredith
Distinctive - (Not Sure if this is Correct - but only thing I could find at this time) When General Meredith at 6'7" stood next to President Lincoln at 6'4", Pres. Lincoln found someone he could look up. I also found a site that declared General Meredith was the tallest Union General - and President Lincoln at that time (and still today) is our tallest president.

I love the easy ones:inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove:

His name was Brigadier General Solomon Meredith (he commanded the Iron Brigade)
Mr. Lincoln said he was the only Quaker in "his" army.

Edit - You left out an important word.

Lincoln said that Meredith was the only Quaker general - not the only Quaker - in his army.

Solomon Meredith. Per wikipedia article of that name, he was 6' 7" tall, which explains his nickname. "Mr. Lincoln remarked Meredith as the only Quaker general in the army" per Stephen W. Sears, Lincoln's Lieutenants, p. 552. https://books.google.com/books?id=p...nepage&q=solomon meredith and lincoln&f=false
