A little context for this photograph.

At Second Corinth (Oct. 3-4, '62), the 47 IL was involved in heavy fighting and experienced significant losses, which included the loss of the regimental commander, Col. William Thrush, who was KIA.

Following the battle, the 47 IL, as part of the so-called 'Eagle Brigade', left Corinth on Nov. 2 and in an advance movement southwards, reached Oxford, MS, on Dec. 13, where it remained encamped until Dec. 21. Two days after this photograph was taken on Dec. 18, news was received at Oxford of Van Dorn's raid on Holly Springs. The next day, the 47 IL, with the brigade, moved out of Oxford towards Holly Springs. (See https://archive.org/details/bugleechoesstory01bryn/page/69/mode/1up?view=theater @ pp. 68-69).

You don't by chance have anymore pics of this company in 1865 onward do you? My relative was a 1st lieutant in Company E...I would love to see more pics if you have them!

Thanks!
Since most of the men in Company E of the original 47th Illinois Infantry were from Tazewell County, you might try contacting the Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society in Pekin, Illinois. The men in Company E of the consolidated 47th Illinois Infantry were from a wider variety of places.

The transcribed muster rolls can be found below. Fill in the unit and company or fill in your ancestor's name, last name first.

I was lucky enough to obtain the surviving effects of Colonel John Nelson Cromwell, Colonel of the 47th Illinois until he was killed in Jackson, MS during the Vicksburg Campaign:
