Appears most likely to be the medallion off of a key chain fob. These were common in the 1970-80 era and beyond bearing various advertising, corporate, fraternal, occupational, sports, automotive logo's or generic symbols on them. The medallion usually affixed to a leather fob that also had the split ring for keys attached also...

Well, it could be a key chain fob, but it looks older to me. It doesn't look anything like any civil war object I have seen, but it doesn't look like the Chrysler logo, either. This is something more historic.
It just struck me that this could be part of a pocket watch fob. It would serve the same basic function as a modern key fob, but would hang as a decoration outside the vest pocket.

It is NOT a Chrysler emblem, not even close. I found two of the exact same item detecting at an 1873-1876 settlement site in Nebraska. There was a small store there and I'm guessing they are watch fobs from the late 1860s or early 1870s.
