This a picture of Louis B Tenner of the 39th NY the Garibaldi Guard. It is a very good picture of that unit's uniform. Tenner, born in Hungary, resigned his position early in 1862 and joined the 7th NJ as captain of Co B. Somewhere in his journey he met and befriended Col. Joseph W. Revere, commander of the 7th, who recommended him for the post. Tenner proved to be incompetent and Co B was disbanded on the eve of the Peninsula Campaign.

I'm trying to find, what the question here? Are we asking why the 7th New Jersey, Company "B" was disbanded, or are we asking about the uniform. A little help here would appreciate.

No question, just an interesting picture of the officer and uniform. As far as Co B being disbanded... Co B was recruited from the Newark area of New Jersey. It was a tough bunch. It's captain and 1st Lt failed the review board and were sent home. Its 2nd Lt resigned rather than face the board. Tenner was brought to bring order and discipline to the company. He failed. It was decided that the best thing to do was disband the company, and spread out its members to other companies in the regiment.
