26th Alabama muskets

Hello gents, I am an avid gun collector who has mostly focused on the weapons of the 20th Century, but after learning the units of my ancestors in the Civil War, I am now beginning to collect muskets. I'm sure there are some truly knowledgable individuals on here, and I am looking to ascertain the types of muskets used by the 26th Alabama Infantry. I have found several sources simply stating a "mixed" assortment of smoothbores and rifles, as well as a photo or two purported to be of a 26th AL infantryman with a p1853 Enfield. Any additional information as to the type of musketry they had would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim.

From what I've read in soldiers' diaries most men in the South, especially in Alabama, provided their own weapons, which was a mishmash of types. Alabama had no funds, even at the outset, to provide weapons nor uniforms, unless you were an officer. Hmmm... could it be that officers were chosen out of those men wealthy enough to buy a uniform?

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. Many companies that were raised here in Alabama were outfitted with funds raised by the locals and I have even seen where a well to do plantation owner would outfit the entire company with uniforms, guns etc with what ever could be purchased and many did bring there own weapons.

Initially various M1816 percussion conversions. While in Virginia they received P53 Enfields by 1863 but also had some captured US arms. They were wholly armed with modern .58 weapons.
