24th Georgia Infantry

The Georgia pension application of Eliza A. Mosley (Georgia Virtual Vault, Hart County) contains information on Milton M. Mosley, who was said to have enlisted as a private in Company A, 24th Georgia on April 12, 1861. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in Company B of the newly formed 3rd Georgia Sharpshooter Battalion on June 7, 1863 (per his service records, Fold3). He died in a railroad accident at Atlanta, Georgia on February 6, 1866, according to information in Eliza's pension application.

In this application, dated to around August 20, 1904, two important witnesses attested to Milton Mosley's prior service: E. H. and J. N. Chandler. Checking the service records, I find that Elias H. Chandler, also of Company A, 24th Georgia, was elevated to 2nd Lieutenant in Company B, 3rd Georgia Sharpshooter Battalion on June 5, 1863, while Joseph N. Chandler was promoted from Captain of Company A to Lieutenant Colonel of the 24th Georgia on January 9, 1864. I suppose Elias and Joseph were brothers.

Eliza's pension application includes a letter from Joseph N. Chandler prepared at Bluffdale, Texas on July 11, 1904, on a letterhead that reads: "Chandler Drug Co., Prescription Drugs."
