@Podad

You mentioned you had ancestors in the 24th Georgia (Jacksons) company C. Do you have any stories, etc you would like to share for my research project?

Will plan to get some information together for you. I am posting from the phone now and will need to key that from a computer.

Best source of information I have seen recently is @lelliott19 and her research on the 16th Ga for her book. The 16th and the 24th were together for almost the entire war.

I'm writing a book about Malvern Hill, as a sequel to "A Bloody Day at Gaines' Mill," (McFarland 2018) I would sure appreciate any help you could give on the 24th and 16th Ga of Cobb's Brigade at that battle. The 16th is especially interesting, as they were detailed away from the brigade, and got stuck 200 y in advance out in the field. Also, anything on the Troup Artillery. They had 5 casualties there, about normal for all batteriess engaged, but I can't find nary a mention of them. Any assistance you could give would be appreciated.

@lelliott19 is THE source for information on the 16th Ga. she is writing a book that will have a lot of never before published information. The link will alert her.

I have another friend and fellow SCV camp member who has written a similar detailed history of the Troup Artllery. It will be printed later this year. Bill Smedlund is the author.

Send me your email address and I will get you in touch with Bill.

[email protected]. The Troup Artillery is HUGELY important. The orthodox history says that Grimes, McClaskey's Richmond Howitzers, Pegram's Purcell, and Davidson's Letcher were the only ones up there, but the Troup has casualties, and there is one mystery battery that told Armistead to stick it when he wanted to go out in the field under US artillery and rifle fire. It gets even more confusing, as many batteries sent only their rifled gun(s), and they went in at different times, although at generally the same place. Grimes, for example, only had 1 gun in the fight; McClaskey's had 4, but the rifled gun was not with the other 3. I've tried to find Mr. Smedlund but can't. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

With kind regards,

Elmer Woodard

Elmer - finished my statistical analysis of the 24th Georgia. At Malvern Hill the regiment suffered 6 killed, 23 wounded and 4 died from their wounds. One note, on the medical reports (when recorded) the soldiers were hit high, i.e. head, shoulder, chest.

Looks like Elmer's not been active for a few months, but I hope he checks back in soon and sees this. :)
