The type of attachment on the back can give you information on age, however, jewelry was sometimes changed. For example a pendant might be changed to a brooch by adding an attachment pin on the back. The attachment might be decades younger than the pendant. That being said, the pin sticking out from behind was more common prior to the 1920's, I believe.
Does anyone know anything about this pin? It came with a grouping of a soldier who served the Confederate Army, Albany, GA, 4th Georgia regiment. View attachment 525831
Have you looked at the back for engravings? What is the image in the case? The case is early because it has no hinges, does the image match that time period or is the pin visible in the image? Fasteners of the time have T bars or a simple coil but not locking fasteners. The pin sticking out is an early feature. Please share the back
No engravings. Image is of an officer in the Albany, GA, Blues militia which became the 4th Georgia. The pin came with the image from a direct descendent. I cannot get the pin out and I dont want to rip the felt. It looks like a straight pin through a round coil at the end. It is the coil that prevents me from pulling the pin out.
