2,500th Post - Navy Officers

For my 2,500th post I restored some small photos of navy officers.

Beautiful work, Mike.

Drayton is, in some ways, the most interesting of the bunch -- never a household name, as Farragut's Flag Captain he was responsible for putting into practical action his boss's general instructions. And he died not long after the war, so didn't live to see much fame or professional advancement in his later years.

At the beginning of the war, Farragut was left on the beach in part because, as a Tennessean and married to a southerner, he was perceived as somewhat questionable in his loyalty. I wonder if that experience made him appreciate Drayton, a son of the South Carolina planter aristocracy, on that account.

Being a Navy vet, I'm just partial to them.

I've done one of Dahlgren, but need to put the others on the list. Zuzah did a great one of Worden a year or two ago with a cat under the chair. Need to up my Navy game...
