Hi all, I'm new to the group and just acquired this little beauty. Any info would be greatly appreciated as the only info I could get on a 2 banded "rifle" was on Enfields. Thank you in advance!

Nice piece. From what I see its been cut down and made into a sporter which was common after the war. The originals had 3 bands and no checkering on the stock. Still a very weapons with an early war dated lock plate.

It was not uncommon to modify these firearms after the Civil War. Remember they were common, readily available and quite obsolete as metallic cartridges became increasing available and popular.
