This type of jacket is often refereed to as a roundabout. The style was popular right up to the Civil War , especially as fatigue wear. Both Northern and Southern states militias would have worn this type of jacket in both blue and gray. For example all 4 Michiagn regiments at the First Battle of Bull Run wore this type of jacket, but without the collar trim. Two of the Michiagn Regiments wore navy blue roundabouts, two wore gray roundabouts.
