The Ninth was the only Michigan Cavalry Regiment that marched with Sherman to the sea, and composed the escort of General Kilpatrick, who maintained communication between that army and the Atlantic coast.

I'm guessing the 4th Mich. They were part of the Army of the Cumberland and they were the unit that captured Jeff Davis

Edit - The Army of the Tennessee and the Army of Georgia took part in the March to the Sea, but the Army of the Cumberland did not. The capture of Davis took place after Sherman had turned north, and the March to the Sea ended before that.
