At the time of the assassination, besides Pres. and Mrs. Lincoln two more persons were present in the Presidential box at Ford's Theater: a lady and a gentleman.

1) Give the names of the lady and the gentleman
2) What caused the untimely death of the lady in 1883?
3) Where was the gentleman laid to rest after his death in 1911? (The city would be enough to answer the question)

Major Henry Rathbone and Clara Harris
Henry Rathbone shot her in a fit of rage/madness in 1883
Hanover, Germany

Booth's bullet might of killed Lincoln but he also killed Henry Rathbone in the box that night.

Edit - Correct, MackCW. Welcome to the trivia game.

Hope you'll come back and play again.

1) Give the names of the lady and the gentleman. Clara Harris and Major Henry Rathbone.
2) What caused the untimely death of the lady in 1883? She was shot to death by the gentleman (Major Rathbone).
3) Where was the gentleman laid to rest after his death in 1911? Hanover, Germany.

1. Henry Reed Rathbone and Clara Hamilton Harris

2. She was shot several times by her then husband Henry R Rathbone (some accounts say shot in the head and also stabbed)

According to most accounts, before dawn on December 23, 1883, Henry Rathbone either entered or tried to enter the room where his children were sleeping. Clara, afraid that he might hurt them, coaxed him back to the master bedroom and closed the door. There, Henry shot his wife several times; Clara Harris Rathbone died on Christmas Eve at age 49. He then stabbed himself six times before the servants intervened. Once again, the gunshot victim died, while Henry survived his knife wounds.

3. Hanover, Germany

1) Major Henry Rathbone and his fiancee, Clara Harris, daughter of Senator Ira Harris
2) She was killed by her husband, Major Henry Rathbone, who after the assassination developed a mental illness. While he once tried (not for the first time) to attack their children, Clara rushed to their aid and was first shot, then stabbed to death by Rathbone in a fit of insanity.
3) Hannover, Germany - Stadtfriedhof Engesohde (Engesohde Cemetery), but the grave no longer exists

Hm, the answers are already out today, Monday 23rd, so I guess that question will be thrown out.
There goes my credit for question...
I hope that at least some Trivia players found the story an interesting one, and maybe some newer members might not have heard from it.

Edit - In cases where the answer to a trivia question is inadvertently revealed early, the question still counts. Players who find the correct answer get an easy 10 points.

The couple: Clara Harris (1834-1883) and her fiancé Henry Rathbone (1837-1911)
Her death: Her now husband had slipped into insanity over several factors including never getting over not stopping the assassin of President Lincoln. On the night of December 23, in an act to protect her children from their father's madness she went into their bedroom where he stabbed and shot her to death.
Laid to Rest: Hanover (Engesohde), Germany

2. Henry Rathbone murdered her.

3. Hanover, Germany.

The gentleman was Major Rathborn. Don't remember the name of the lady.
#2 The lady married Major Rathborn and was murdered by him.
#3 I seem to recall he went insane, murdered his wife and is buried in Germany.

Edit - A correct answer would have to include the lady's name and the city where the gentleman was buried.

3) Hildesheim, Germany.

Edit - Sorry, Georgia, Henry Rathbone died at an insane asylum in Hildesheim, but he was laid to rest in Hannover.

Welcome to CivilWarTalk and to the trivia game, anyway. Hope you'll come back and play again.
