I was a minor player in what was probably the greatest manhunt of the mid-19th century. Although the I and my fellow searchers were not successful, we did recover a number of artifacts related to our quest. I was present in the United States in April 1865 at the time of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. I approached General John Dix and presented him with a number of those artifacts and requested they be buried with the president. Dix accepted, the artifacts were entombed with President Lincoln where they may yet remain.

1. Who was I?
2. For whom was our manhunt searching?

Bonus:
The oldest abolition organization in the United States traces its roots to 1775 and still exists today, with a modern mission of combating racism. What is the current name of the organization and in what city was it founded?

Question
You Are: Captain William Parker Snow
You were searching - for Captain Sir John Franklin and his voyage to the Arctic in 1845. It became known as the "Franklin's Lost Expedition", as the 129 members of the original 2 ships that were exploring the Arctic region in 1845 never returned. His wife Lady Jane Franklin pushed for search parties to discover their fate. It is reported that a piece of a uniform - Captain Snow claimed he found under a skeleton (along with other relics) were placed in the coffin of President Lincoln, although my source does raise some questions on the truth of his story.

John Parker Snow, who was searching for the missing expedition led by Sir John Franklin

Bonus: Pennsylvania Abolition Society, founded in Philadelphia

Edit - Various sources refer to the searcher as either William Parker Snow or simply Parker Snow. I can find no source that refers to him as John Parker Snow.

Captain William Parker Snow. He was looking for the survivors of the Foster Expedition to the Arctic. (Ironic, given Snow's last name).

Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage, founded in Philadelphia.

Edit - For the main question, Snow was looking for survivors of the Franklin Expedition, not the Foster Expedition.

For the bonus, the question asked for the current name of the society, not its original name.

Bonus:

The first abolition society is the Pennsylvania Abolition (or Abolitionist) Society.
It was founded in Philadelphia, PA under the name Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage.

Wikipedia says:

"Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage was the first American abolition society. It was founded April 14, 1775, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and held four meetings.
[...]
The Pennsylvania Abolition Society still exists, dedicated to the cause of combating racism"

Darn good question. I wasted a lot of time (as I am sure others did) searching for artifacts relating to the Booth manhunt.

Answer: 1. Captain Parker Snow
2. Sir John Franklin's expedition

In the 26 April 1865 New York Herald Page 1 Column 4, was the following article: "Captain Parker Snow, the distinguished commander of the Arctic and Antarctic exploring expeditions, presented to Gen. Dix, with a view of their being interred in the coffin of the President, some interesting relics of Sir John Franklin's ill fated expedition. They consisted of a tattered leaf of a Prayer Book, on which the first word legible was the word "Martyr," and a piece of fringe and some portions of uniform. These suggestive relics, which are soon to be buried out of sight, were found in a boat lying under the head of a human skeleton."

Edit - No answer given for main question.

The second part of the bonus question asked for the name of the city where the society was founded.
