This regiment was formed in early 1863 in the eastern part of Kentucky, and my 6th great grandfather was in it. Does anyone know of anywhere I can find information on its movements and activities. All I can find for now was it was active in Eastern KY and Western VA.

Please confirm the unit you are interested in. Thank you.

10th Cavalry Regiment was formed during the fall of 1863 using May's Kentucky Mounted Battalion as its nucleus. It contained men from Kentucky and Virginia. The unit served in the Department of East Tennessee and the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee, and skirmished in various conflicts in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. In the spring of 1865 it disbanded. The field officers were Colonels George R. Diamond, Andrew J. May, and Edwin Trimble, and Major William R. Lee.

10th Regiment Partisan Rangers was organized behind Federal lines during the spring and summer of 1863. Many of its members were recruited in Oldham and Crittenden counties. The unit saw action in Kentucky and Tennessee and acted as a guide for General J.H. Morgan on his raids into Indiana and Ohio. Later some of the men returned home, and a detachment surrendered at Paducah, Kentucky, in May, 1865. Colonel Adam R. Johnson, Lieutenant Colonel R.M. Martin, and Major Washington G. Owen were in command.

Two Companies appear identified as Co H, one dated August 25th 1862 the other listing entirely different officers and privates September 5th 1862

"This book, with its accounts of the men of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry and their exploits during the "War Between the States," should be in the library of every native or descendant of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky who is interested in the history or genealogy of their family. The authors bring the story of the war in this remote region to life by providing insight into the motivations and aspirations of the people of the mountains and personalizing their efforts during that tragic period of American history.

The reprint will contain 2 additional pages of the 10th Kentucky's roster, 2 pages of errata and 4 pages of known members of the 10th Cavalry who served in Co. K, 13th Georgia Cavalry, CSA."

I am researching soldiers buried in Kingston Cemetery and one is Charlie B. Means and his marker indicates he was a Confederate Soldier but no unit or death dates. His pension records in the Georgia Vault indicates he was in Co B 10th Kentucky Regiment Cavalry and Co K 2nd Kentucky Cavalry He said they were all killed wounded or captured in the Winter of 1864 at Kingsfall? Virginia.

I have ancestors who I believe rode/ fought with both the 8th (Private John Samuel Roberts) and 9th (Captain William P Roberts) KY CSA. Does anyone where I can find information on these two regiments?
